Erbium quantum memory hits 1 ms on-demand at telecom wavelength
A paper accepted in Phys. Rev. Lett. reports on-demand storage of spectrotemporal modes in Er:YSiO for up to 1 ms at telecom wavelength, roughly 10x longer than earlier erbium demonstrations. Efficiency is 10.36% at 300 us with SNR 10.9, storing 20 temporal and 3 spectral modes at once.
- Storage up to 1 ms at telecom wavelength, about 10x prior erbium results
- Efficiency 10.36% at 300 us, SNR 10.9, limited by spontaneous emission noise
- 20 temporal and 3 spectral modes stored with selective on-demand recall
- Accepted in Phys. Rev. Lett.; preprint arXiv:2512.17181 dates to December 2025
