IonQ hits 1,000 entanglements per second in quantum memory link
IonQ demonstrated a quantum link connecting a trapped-ion qubit with a silicon-vacancy qubit in solid-state memory via a photonic interconnect. The rate exceeds 1,000 entanglement events per second, more than four times the previous record for trapped-ion systems.
- Link exceeds 1,000 entanglement events per second
- Previous trapped-ion record beaten by more than 4x
- Connects a trapped-ion qubit with an SiV qubit in solid-state memory
- University of Maryland bought the first commercial system in April 2026
