WordPress 7.2 beta: six changes that can break plugins
WordPress 7.2 is in beta, with RC1 on November 17 and the final release planned for December 8. Developers flagged six changes that can alter existing plugin and block behavior: a new HTML API-based sanitizer, removal of NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES from the wpdb session, stroke-based Core icons, link-color classes on four blocks, fn- prefixed footnote IDs and deprecated components.
- WordPress 7.2 final release is set for December 8, RC1 for November 17
- wp_kses() moves to the HTML API and normalizes output; wp_kses_force_legacy_parser is a stopgap
- wpdb strips NO_BACKSLASH_ESCAPES from its session; only a db.php drop-in can restore it
- About 330 Core icons are now stroke-based; Divider and ZStack are deprecated until 7.4
