Oura patents body-heat ring that harvests thermoelectric power
Oura filed European application EP 4827575 A1 for a smart ring with thermoelectric generators between an insulated outer shell and a skin-contact inner housing, exploiting a 3–10°C gradient to produce microwatts per square centimeter. The yield can offset standby drain and add roughly 10–15% runtime but cannot replace wired charging. Samsung published three related patents covering ring orientation calibration and biometric wearer identification.
- A 3–10°C finger-to-air gradient yields microwatts per cm²
- Harvested power extends ring runtime by only 10–15%
- Samsung proposes a calibration gesture to realign sensor axes
- Electrodes and two biometric sensors identify the wearer
