New Membrane Removes Nearly 100% of Ammonia From Wastewater in Minutes
Scientists developed an electrofiltration membrane RuO₂@PbO₂-M that removes nearly 100% of ammonia nitrogen from wastewater in 1.2 minutes while cutting chemical oxygen demand by 68%. The technology generates ·ClO radicals inside the membrane and requires no added chemical reagents.
- Removal of nearly 100% ammonia nitrogen at 1.2 minutes retention time
- Over 70+ hours operation, COD down 68% and total nitrogen down 99.6%
- Best result at current density 20 mA/cm² and chlorides 100 mg/L
- ·ClO radicals form inside the membrane without chemical precursors
