Minions-shaped routers caught by FCC ban on foreign network gear
Davolink's viral Minion routers Kevin and Bob can't get FCC authorization for new US sales: since March 23 the agency bans approval of foreign-made network routers without an exemption. Existing units remain legal, but firmware updates are only guaranteed through the end of 2028.
- Kevin (DVW-632) is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6E AXE5400 router with a 2.5 Gbps WAN port at $62.99
- Bob (DVW-642) is a dual-band Wi-Fi 6 model rated up to 1.77 Gbps
- Netgear, Eero and ASUS hold FCC exemptions; Davolink hasn't said if it applied
- Security patches are waived until at least January 1, 2029
