Google Assistant Is Gone From Android Phones, Replaced by Gemini

Google began removing Assistant from Android phones and tablets on September 4, 2026, and by late September it had disappeared from every device checked in the US and Europe. Gemini is now the only voice assistant, with no option to switch back in the app. Cars with Google built-in and Nest speakers keep Assistant for now.

• Assistant removal started September 4, 2026, and took a few weeks
• Gemini is summoned by long-pressing the power button or swiping from a screen corner
• Users report wrong contacts, unreliable timers and alarms
• Gemini cannot play podcasts, news or radio like Assistant
