China Spallation Neutron Source enters user operation at 200 kW
The China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS) in Dongguan has pushed its beam power past 200 kW and formally entered user operation at that level, twice its phase-one design power. IHEP announced the milestone on October 24, saying it was reached on October 20 after nearly a month of beam commissioning and validates the path to the 500 kW target of CSNS-II.
- CSNS beam power exceeded 200 kW, double its phase-one design
- Milestone reached on October 20 after nearly a month of beam commissioning
- All CSNS-II accelerator equipment except the superconducting section is installed
- New T8 target with 200 kW cooling was tested on September 25
