spryte: open-source 2D web renderer draws moving sprites 2–4x faster
The spryte team released an open-source 2D renderer for the web that draws moving sprites 2–4x faster than PixiJS on the open 2dbench benchmark while using about an eighth of the JavaScript. Its bulk path handles 800,000 sprites at 60 fps versus 400,000 for PixiJS on a laptop with an RTX 5060 in Chrome.
- 800,000 moving sprites at 60 fps versus 400,000 for PixiJS
- Particles with size, rotation and colour: 400,000 versus 100,000
- Bulk path sends 8 bytes per sprite to the GPU instead of 52
- 2dbench is open and verifies output pixels against PixiJS
