Google privacy policy lets Personal Intelligence data feed targeted ads
Google updated its privacy policy so data from Gmail, Drive and Google Photos can be used for personalized ads if users connect those services to its Personal Intelligence AI feature. The policy previously promised this data would not be used for ads. Advertisers still cannot access the content or personally identifiable information.
- Exception added on October 16 covers data shared with Google services that serve personalized ads
- Advertisers still get no access to Gmail, Drive, Photos content or PII
- Ban on ads based on race, religion, health and sexual orientation remains
- Users can opt out via Search personalization settings or by disconnecting services
