ETH Zurich's ANYmal robot solves giant Rubik's Cube with only its feet
Researchers at ETH Zurich's Robotic Systems Lab taught a quadruped ANYmal-D robot to solve a giant Rubik's Cube using only its feet. The robot maps the cube with a depth camera, plans a sequence of about 30 actions and completes it in 8–9 minutes; it succeeded in all three tests.
- The robot uses only its feet, with no arms or grippers
- A full solve takes about 30 actions and 8–9 minutes
- Policies were trained in simulation and transferred to the real robot
- It works on cobblestones, moss and low-friction surfaces
