India sets October 2028 deadline for its own smartphone brand

Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said at the NDTV World Summit that India aims to have its own smartphone with Indian design, manufacturing and IP by October 23, 2028. He noted that an Indian company has already designed and supplied a 5G phone to a major US telecom operator, but no brand name, specs or pricing were disclosed.
