llms.txt v2: how agents find the file and what breaks the parser
The llms.txt proposal got its first major revision in August 2026: files can live at any path with the most specific one winning, two Markdown URL forms are allowed, and discovery works via rel="alternate" and rel="describedby" in link elements or HTTP headers. The reference parser in the repo crashes on common formatting such as "name: URL" lines, wrapped list items and multi-line blockquotes.
- v2 allows /docs/llms.txt to cover everything under /docs/, most specific file wins
- Markdown URLs: append .md or replace the extension; directories use index.md
- Discovery via rel="alternate" type="text/markdown" and rel="describedby" in link or HTTP header
- Parser raises AttributeError on lines without [name](url) and drops summary without a paragraph after the quote
