macOS DarkWakes burn Claude Code weekly limits with the lid closed
Claude Code users report losing 20–56% of their weekly limit overnight: macOS periodically wakes a closed MacBook in DarkWake, aborts the in-flight stream and forces the client to resend the full context. Reports filed October 15–18 show up to 81 requests over 6.5 hours with 400K–728K tokens of context each.
- Report #102597 logged 26 wake cycles in 6.5 hours, usage rising from 20% to 56%
- Report #103064 sent 29 requests with 648K–728K tokens of context, usage up from about 9% to 19%
- DarkWakes last 2–7 seconds every 15–20 minutes
- Workaround: sudo pmset -a disablesleep 1 or interrupt the task before closing the lid
