Canada Bets $5 Billion on Telesat Lightspeed Satellite Network

Ottawa has committed more than $5 billion in federal loans and contracts to Telesat's Lightspeed satellite network, including a $2.14 billion repayable loan signed in September 2024. PM Mark Carney cited Starlink restrictions in Ukraine as reason for a Canada-controlled alternative.
