Boom Supersonic ships 14,000-pound Sprint Core turbine prototype for testing
Boom Supersonic has unveiled its first 14,000-pound Sprint Core, a prototype that will underpin both its Symphony jet engine and the 42-MW Superpower gas turbine. The core has been shipped to a test site at Colorado Air and Space Port, with operation expected by Thanksgiving; a $150 million factory targets 1 GW (25 turbines) annually by 2028 and 2 GW by 2029.
- Prototype has a six-stage compressor, 24 fuel nozzles and a single-stage turbine
- About 2,000 sensors will monitor temperature, pressure and vibration
- The 200,000-sq-ft factory will make parts covering 85% of turbine mass
- First customer deliveries are planned for mid-2027
