Kanadevia completes pilot waste-to-energy plant with over 90% CO2 recovery
Japan's Kanadevia has finished building a pilot incineration plant in Tokyo's Shinagawa City that burns waste in nearly pure oxygen and recycles flue gas. CO2 concentration in the exhaust rises from 8–15% to 30–60%, and lab tests showed over 90% CO2 recovery at more than 95% purity. The demonstration starts in November 2026 and will run for four years.
- Pilot plant capacity is 2 tons of waste per day
- CO2 concentration in flue gas: 30–60% versus 8–15% conventionally
- Lab tests recovered over 90% of CO2 at above 95% purity
- Demonstration begins in November 2026 and runs for four years
