Microsoft admits October Windows patch failed to fix Always On VPN bug
Microsoft confirmed that the Always On VPN connection issue in Windows 11, introduced by September 2026 updates, is still unresolved. The bug was mistakenly marked as fixed on October 13 and has been downgraded back to Mitigated. A permanent fix is weeks away; admins are advised to pin VPN profiles to a single protocol.
- The bug affects Windows 11 versions 24H2 through 26H2
- It triggers when auto-fallback between IKEv2 and SSTP fails
- Bug status was reverted from Resolved to Mitigated
- Workaround: disable auto-fallback and pin one protocol
