TSMC seeks chipmaking tools without Chinese rare-earth magnets
TSMC has begun asking equipment suppliers for fab automation motors that avoid rare-earth magnets, aiming to cut reliance on China, which controls about 90% of rare-earth refining. The move follows Chinese export controls imposed in 2025 and expanded in October.
