Gene therapy ER-100 restores vision in two glaucoma patients
Life Biosciences has dosed the first human patients with ER-100, a gene therapy that uses epigenetic reprogramming based on Harvard geneticist David Sinclair's research. In the Phase 1 trial, two of three participants showed visual field improvements eight weeks after the initial treatment.
- ER-100 targets retinal ganglion cells damaged by glaucoma
- Vision improved in 2 of 3 participants after 8 weeks
- The approach uses three transcription factors, as in 2020 mouse studies
- Sinclair says the method could extend to the liver and other organs
