Scientists coat mitochondria with metal-organic frameworks without halting energy production
Researchers from FINCB and Politecnico di Milano applied thin layers of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) to mitochondria at micromolar concentrations. The organelles kept producing energy after coating, a step toward mitochondrial transplantation and treatments for mitochondrial diseases.
- MOF coatings were applied at micromolar concentrations
- Coated mitochondria retained their energy production
- Coating properties can be tuned for specific tasks
- The study appeared in the Journal of the American Chemical Society
