Twelve and Montana Renewables ramp up SAF from captured CO2 and fats
Startup Twelve began commercial production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from captured CO2 at its AirPlant One facility in Moses Lake, Washington, designed for up to 50,000 gallons. Montana Renewables makes SAF from used cooking oil and tallow at a converted refinery, producing 60 million gallons a year with a target of 200 million by end-2028. SAF is still about 1% of Alaska Air Group's fuel and costs more than jet fuel.
