Malaysia's PM urges citizens to use TuJu instead of Waze
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim encouraged Malaysians to switch from Waze to the locally built TuJu navigation app, citing data security concerns over tracking of public movement. He claimed Waze is bound by Israeli law but gave no specifics. TuJu, developed by LLM and Prosignal Consortium, launched in November 2025 on iOS and Android.
- Waze has been owned by Google since a 2013 deal worth nearly $1 billion
- TuJu offers toll costs, rest stops, petrol stations and highway CCTV
- Iraq plans to block Waze by the end of December 2026
- Malaysia is also preparing for post-quantum cryptography and AI-agent risks
