Semtech LR2021 LoRa chip turned into SDR covering 100 MHz to 2.74 GHz
Developer Samuel Reynolds released the open-source LR2021-SDR project, which uses an undocumented ROM command to turn the Semtech LR2021 LoRa transceiver into a software-defined radio. The chip outputs raw 16-bit I/Q samples over SPI, enabling decoding of P25 Phase 1, POCSAG and analog FM without an external SDR dongle.
- Receive and transmit tested from 100 MHz to 2.74 GHz, beyond the datasheet's 150–960 MHz and 1.5–2.5 GHz bands
- Continuous capture at 125k samples/s ran up to 391 seconds without FIFO loss
- Short captures up to 250k samples/s work; 500k and 1M overflow the 16 MHz SPI link
- Requires an LR2021 board on ROM 1.24; the SX1262 variant lacks raw I/Q access
