Microsoft shuts Nairobi Africa Development Centre, cutting over 400 jobs

Microsoft has closed its Africa Development Centre in Nairobi, leaving more than 400 engineers without jobs, and shut sales offices in Windhoek, Abidjan, Dakar, Accra and Port-Louis. The centre, announced in 2019 as part of a $100 million commitment to African engineering talent, follows the closure of the Lagos hub in May 2024.
