Dash: an open-source home assistant built on Gemini 3.8 Live API
A developer released Dash, an MIT-licensed ambient display for a kiosk-mode tablet with a "Hey Dash" voice assistant powered by Gemini 3.8 Live via the Live API. The server mints single-use tokens to keep the API key off the device, audio streams directly over WebSocket, and the backend runs tool calls.
- Dash is an Express server plus a Vite/TypeScript front end, MIT-licensed, configured via one config.json
- The voice layer runs on gemini-3.8-live through the Gemini Live API with 70+ languages
- The API key stays server-side: the browser gets a single-use token with session settings locked in
- Audio flows directly at 16 kHz PCM up and 24 kHz PCM down; the server only handles tool calls
