usb-rea auto-generates open Python drivers for Windows-only USB gadgets
A developer released usb-rea (MIT), an open tool that reconstructs a device's USB protocol from labelled traffic and generates a standalone pyusb driver. Version 0.4.0 infers counters, checksums, bitfields and device replies, and also produces a Wireshark dissector.
- The tool diffs packets per user action and writes report.md citing Wireshark frame numbers
- It supports CRC8/16, sum8/16, lookup tables and multi-packet commands
- An MCP server lets AI agents run sessions; sending commands to hardware needs human confirmation
- It has not yet been tested on a physical gadget
