Shenzhen's International Quantum Academy entangles up to six phonon modes on a 2D chip
Researchers led by Tan Dian at Shenzhen's International Quantum Academy generated genuinely multipartite entangled states of up to six phonon modes across two acoustic resonators on a single chip and transferred some states between them. The work was published in Science on October 15, with fidelities of 0.912, 0.790 and 0.570 for two, four and six modes.
- Entangled states of two, four and six phonon modes reached fidelities of 0.912, 0.790 and 0.570
- Two- and four-mode states were transferred between resonators at 0.785 and 0.601 fidelity
- Tomography needed only two superconducting qubits on a hybrid 2D chip
- Long-term goal is modular phonon-based quantum networks; result remains basic research
