Claude Code 2.1.302 adds idle compaction and a 12-hook cap
Between 7 and 16 October 2026 the Claude Code team shipped eight npm releases, 2.1.293 through 2.1.302. Key changes include idle compaction after about 54 minutes, a 12-hook concurrency cap per event, fork subagents on by default in headless mode, and onFailure: "block" for hooks.
- Idle compaction is on by default for conversations of 200K+ tokens
- Prompt and agent hooks now run at most 12 at a time per event
- onFailure: "block" stops an action when a hook crashes or times out
- Sonnet 5.5 cache reads now cost $0.10 per million tokens
