Gentoo to drop Chromium from repos on October 24

Gentoo Linux will remove the www-client/chromium package from its official repositories on October 24 unless a new maintainer volunteers. The package is already masked; builds take about 6 hours on a powerful desktop and 15–16 hours on a laptop, and the repo lags upstream by four major versions.

• www-client/chromium is masked and slated for removal on October 24
• Compiling Chromium takes ~6 hours on a desktop and 15–16 hours on a laptop
• Repo has 151.0.7922.169-r1 versus upstream 155.0.8059.84
• Google Chrome, Edge, Vivaldi, Opera and the Flathub build remain available
