Starlink, Jio and OneWeb stuck in India's satcom approval queue

Musk accused Reliance Jio and the Indian government of stalling Starlink's licence, and Reliance denied the claims. The Communications Ministry said all three operators hold GMPCS licences and are at broadly the same regulatory stage, with security assessment and spectrum assignment still pending.

• Starlink received its GMPCS licence in June 2025 and IN-SPACe authorisation in July 2025
• OneWeb got GMPCS in August 2021, Jio in March 2022
• Jio completed its compliance demo in March 2025, OneWeb in January 2025, Starlink in early 2026
• Security assessment and spectrum assignment still stand before commercial launch
