NYU study reveals how microgravity affects the human genome
Researchers at NYU built a random positioning machine and exposed living cell cultures to simulated microgravity for 24 hours. Microgravity enlarged the cell nucleus, but genome organization and dynamics stayed unchanged and no DNA damage occurred.
- 24 hours of simulated microgravity enlarged the cell nucleus
- Nuclear envelope structure and genome organization were unchanged
- DNA damage came from fluid flows, not microgravity itself
- The findings were published in Science Advances
