LibreOffice opens '90s files that Microsoft Office now refuses to touch

LibreOffice opens legacy files, including PowerPoint 95 documents, on the first try with no configuration, while modern Microsoft Office versions cannot. Microsoft has spent nearly two decades blocking early versions of its own formats across Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• PowerPoint 2007 and later cannot open PowerPoint 95 files
• LibreOffice opens such a file on the first try without setup
• The restrictions cover legacy Word, Excel, and PowerPoint formats
