Ukraine's military robots get 3D-printed airless tires
Ukrainian companies Print&Live UA and iSCALE 3D have developed 3D-printed airless tires for uncrewed ground vehicles (UGVs). Instead of pressurized air, the wheels use an internal lattice of elastomers and composite polymers that flexes over rough terrain and keeps working after damage. The tires are already deployed on the front lines.
- Tires are 3D printed around a lightweight internal lattice of elastomers and composites
- Stiffness and damping are digitally tuned for each UGV type and payload
- A two-piece rim lets soldiers swap a damaged tire by hand without a press
- The set is lighter than Western airless alternatives and survives damage
