Scientists call for reassessing the size of the solar system
Jim Green, former NASA chief scientist, and Ed Belbruno of Yeshiva University propose redefining the solar system's edge using the Milky Way's gravitational field, including dark matter. They estimate the boundary extends nearly 3.8 light-years, or about 241,000 astronomical units, from the sun.
- Solar system's edge may reach 3.8 light-years (241,000 AU)
- Theory factors in Milky Way gravity and dark matter
- L1 and L2 points could act as a 'portal' for interstellar objects
- New Horizons spacecraft could help verify the calculations
