MIT Left an AI Agent Alone on a Virtual Island for 30 Hours
Researchers at MIT CSAIL placed 13 AI agents called Eko, powered by Claude Code, in a virtual island environment with a lobster body and no instructions. Over 30 hours the agents explored physics, built with blocks, played basketball and constructed a "memorial" for lost objects.
- 13 Eko agents powered by Claude Code roamed a virtual island for 30 hours with no tasks
- Agents had a lobster body and could move blocks, a rock and a golden ring
- One Eko stacked blocks to reach an otherwise unreachable spire
- Eko 2 built a four-block "memorial" after losing objects to the ocean
