CERN and Mistral to build a Large Physics Model for the LHC
CERN and Mistral AI signed a statement of intent to build AI foundation models for science. The first project, a Large Physics Model, will train on billions of simulated proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. No timeline or budget was disclosed.
- The model will train on billions of simulated proton-proton collisions at the LHC
- It is meant to replace separate algorithms for reconstruction, particle ID and new-physics searches
- CERN has stored about one exabyte of data; the HL-LHC around 2030 will raise collisions tenfold
- Neither partner disclosed a timeline or budget
