Kairos Power Builds TRISO Pebble Tracking System DOE Once Called Unfeasible
Kairos Power has commissioned an automated line that measures, scans and laser-engraves three redundant data matrix codes 0.5 mm deep into each TRISO fuel pebble it makes. The system addresses individual pebble accounting that a 2020 Oak Ridge National Laboratory report for the DOE called unfeasible with current technology.
- Each pebble gets three redundant codes etched 0.5 mm deep
- Codes link to a digital record of size, density and batch
- ORNL in 2020 deemed item-level pebble tracking unfeasible
- A 70,000-pebble campaign runs in Albuquerque on surrogate graphite
