Griffin-1 completes JPL test campaign ahead of lunar south pole landing
NASA's JPL announced that Voyager Technologies' Griffin-1, the only commercial lunar lander still on track for a 2026 launch, passed a full environmental test campaign including vibration, acoustic, EMI/EMC and thermal vacuum testing. A SpaceX Falcon Heavy is set to send it to the Moon's south pole no earlier than November.
- Griffin-1 weighs 1,265 kg, spans 4.6 m and carries over 455 kg of payload
- Thermal vacuum testing cycled between 75°C and minus 100°C for about two weeks
- Acoustic tests reached 153 dB, roughly the sound of a jet at takeoff
- Payload includes 10 science demos from six countries and Astrolab's 500-kg FLIP rover
