Hands-on with HomeView: Apple's new smart hub oozes personality

Macworld published first impressions of HomeView, Apple's new smart display positioned as the centerpiece of the home. The device blends elements of the Apple Watch, iPad and iMac G4: a touchscreen, a swiveling stand and Siri voice control. The case is about 10mm thick, and the wall-mounted version costs more than the base model once mounting and installation are included.

• Screen resembles an oversized Apple Watch with a brushed metal case about 10mm thick
• Controls combine iPad-like touch, iMac G4-style swiveling and Siri voice commands
• Wall-mounted version costs more than the base model with mount and installation
• Device must stay near an outlet, so it can't sit in the middle of a table
