Cisco at OCP: the network is now AI's critical path, openness is the price of admission
At the Open Compute Project Global Summit, Cisco unveiled the USFP pluggable optics module at 12.8 Tbps (400 Gbps per lane), its first Silicon One G300 systems and the G302 top-of-rack chip, and brought Live Protect runtime security to SONiC. The company is betting on openness at every layer of the stack, including standardizing USFP with TE Connectivity and Amphenol.
- USFP is the first pluggable module for 400 Gbps per lane, up to 12.8 Tbps and 4x bandwidth density
- USFP standardization with TE Connectivity and Amphenol should lower optics prices
- Cisco shipped its first Silicon One G300 systems and the G302 top-of-rack chip
- Live Protect for SONiC: mean time to exploit a vulnerability fell from 9 months to 10 hours
