Google runs Gmail, Docs and YouTube as web apps on Googlebook, not Android apps

On Googlebook, key Google services including Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Sheets and YouTube run as web apps inside Chrome rather than native Android apps. Google says this is intentional for a better laptop experience, but the tradeoff is more noticeable on touchscreen and convertible models. Google Keep, by contrast, runs as a native Android app.

• Gmail, Docs, Calendar and Sheets run as web apps in Chrome on Googlebook
• YouTube also uses a web-based experience instead of the regular Android app
• Google Keep runs as a native Android app on the device
• Native Android apps are easier to use in tablet mode on touchscreen and convertible Googlebooks
