Infineon and ZuriQ scale trapped-ion quantum chips
Infineon Technologies and Swiss startup ZuriQ have expanded their partnership to build scalable quantum chips using a two-dimensional trapped-ion architecture. The work combines ZuriQ's Penning micro-trap technology with Infineon's semiconductor manufacturing, advanced packaging and integrated photonics. No commercial timeline or target qubit count was announced.
- Partners combine ZuriQ's Penning micro-traps with Infineon manufacturing and photonics
- Earlier work demonstrated a 3×3 array of nine individually controlled ions
- 2D architecture moves ions without complex junction structures
- No target qubit count or commercial deployment timeline announced
