New turbine material can be recycled into diapers and even gummy bears
Researchers at Michigan State University developed a material of synthetic and plant-derived polymers with glass fibers for wind turbine blades. It can be dissolved, have its glass fibers removed, and be recast into new products — from laptop covers to diapers and edible potassium lactate used to make gummy bears.
- Material combines synthetic and plant-derived polymers with glass fibers
- It keeps its properties after dissolution and can be recast into new products
- Yields acrylic-like material, diaper polymer and potassium lactate
- Purified potassium lactate is 100% edible — used to make gummy bears
