Microsoft AI systems hardware director Wilson Vu joins OpenAI

Wilson Vu, senior director of hardware architecture for AI systems at Microsoft, has left the company after 12 years and joined OpenAI. He will work on compute architecture as a member of technical staff as OpenAI develops its own Jalapeño chips.

• Vu spent 12 years at Microsoft across three stints
• He most recently ran a team building AI and GPU platforms
• At OpenAI he will focus on compute architecture
• Jalapeño chips are set for limited deployment this year
