Google suspended RACE ads over "malicious software" despite clean scans
The developer of RACE, a native macOS terminal multiplexer written in Rust, spent $500 on Google Ads before the account was suspended for "Malicious software" and "Compromised Site." Safe Browsing, Search Console, VirusTotal and notarization checks all came back clean; the suspension was reversed only after the case drew attention on Hacker News, with no explanation given.
- App is signed and notarized; DMG clean on VirusTotal and Google's own scan
- Safe Browsing and Search Console reported no issues on either domain
- Appeals were rejected repeatedly; one led to a week-long account block
- Reinstatement came via Hacker News publicity, not the appeal process
