TP-Link Routers Get Official End-of-Support Date of January 1, 2029
TP-Link has not yet received an exemption from the US ban on foreign-made routers, unlike Asus, Netgear, Nokia, Amazon and SpaceX. As a result, existing TP-Link routers will stop receiving firmware and security updates on January 1, 2029, and new Wi-Fi 8 models cannot get FCC approval.
- Since March 23, 2026, new routers made outside the US need a Pentagon or Homeland Security exemption for FCC approval
- Asus, Adtran, Amazon (Eero), Nokia, Netgear and SpaceX already have exemptions; TP-Link does not
- Existing TP-Link routers stay on sale and keep working, but updates end January 1, 2029
- TP-Link moved its headquarters to California in 2024 and is shifting more manufacturing to the US
