ICANN opens new gTLD round: 1,615 applications including .openai and .bitcoin

ICANN has opened its first new gTLD application round since 2012, receiving 1,615 applications: 333 brand names (.adobe, .tiktok), 31 crypto strings (.bitcoin, .ethereum) and 29 AI-related names (.openai, .llm, .agent). The most contested string is .agent with 13 applicants.
