MINIGRAPH project completes: graphene brain implant guided by magnetic robot
A European consortium has completed the four-year, nearly €4 million MINIGRAPH project. It produced the first preclinically validated system combining ultra-thin graphene neural probes with magnetic robotic guidance that reaches deep brain targets along curved trajectories conventional rigid stereotactic frames cannot navigate.
- Graphene probes about 10 µm thick show ~200x higher charge injection capacity than platinum-iridium
- Accelerated ageing tests project more than 10 years of implant stability
- Magnetic navigation steers flexible probes along curved paths with sub-millimeter accuracy
- Selected from over 400 proposals under EIC Pathfinder, grant Nº 101070865
