AI Skin Scanner Detects Hidden Cancer Before It's Visible
The SUBSCAN method combines LC-OCT microscopic skin imaging with AI to flag basal cell carcinoma before it appears in a conventional exam. In a 150-patient feasibility study, imaging found histologically confirmed subclinical tumors in 14 patients (9.3%), and 15 of 18 AI-flagged lesions were confirmed by biopsy. The positive predictive value was 83.3%, but sensitivity remains unknown.
